High Lava Fire Update

Skamania County Emergency Management reported the High Lava Fire on August 4, 2026, continuing to burn within the Gifford area. The update comes as the county monitors fire activity in the Columbia River Gorge region.

The Skamania County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue (SAR) Team has been active this summer with multiple rescues. On July 25, 2026, they rescued a hiker who fell ill near Mount St. Helens. On July 15, 2026, they rescued an injured hiker at Snagtooth Falls. On July 27, 2026, they assisted an injured hiker on Hamilton Mountain Trail.
